Are you curious about oil painting and unsure of where to begin? Discover the magic of this classic artist medium without the extensive time and materials commitment. Check out this 4 week intro to oil painting course. Working with a guided, step by step approach, we will create two painting studies, touching on the basics of oil painting and the required materials, color mixing, handling the brush, and more. This class is an excellent stepping stone to an 8 week class. $10 supply fee paid to directly to instructor during first class. Art bites intro classes can be taken in either order (1 first or 2 first or vice versa). Each intro class has the same level of painting, just different projects. Intro to oil painting 2 should only be taken once as projects do not change. Meets Tuesdays 12p - 1:30p in August.

First person storytelling shows are all the rage on stages and podcasts across the country. In this class, you will learn how to take true events from your own life and weave them into engaging performances. We will work on public speaking skills, presentation, story structure, different narrative approaches, and creating your own unique style. Each week, students will be given a new assignment for how to structure a story. Students choose their own subject matter for their personal stories. This class culminates in a graduation performance, where each student will share a 3-7 minute personal story. Students will learn to create a painting from concept to completion in oil or acrylic media. We will focus on proper planning prior to starting a painting, as well as, basic layering and blending techniques, color mixing, handling the brush and more. Students will work at their own pace in a relaxed and supportive setting. Each session will feature 3 instructor demonstrations of beginning-intermediate painting techniques. Because everyone's needs are different, supplies will be discussed during the first class. New students, bring your sketch pad and your ideas if you've never painted before. New students who have already begun your painting journey, bring anything you're currently working on as well as materials that you already have. Returning students, bring your current painting and materials. Class size limited to 10 to provide an intimate experience with your instructor. - The Figure in Clay with Mike Lalone
The Figure in Clay with Mike Lalone The focus of this class will be modeling the human figure in three dimensions. Learn the difference between armature and non-armature related construction. Students will approach the figure by building from the inside out. Muscles and skin are added as we build up fullness on the torso. Arms, legs and head will be modeled and added to the torso. After the figure is complete, we will hollow out overly thick areas to be able to fire the piece. Figures will be from 9 to 12 inches in size. Tools: Tools can range from professional sculpting tools to ga few basic loop and wood carving tools. No need for huge expense. Get a few loop tools for digging out clay, a skewer stick or two, popsicle sticks and we are on our way! Clay: Supplied and included in the price of this workshop. 6 hour / 8 seat max / held Saturday, August 1, 2026 Membership and Instructor discounts do not apply. This class is designed for teens interested in ceramic arts. Students will learn techniques to create beautiful clay works through handbuilding and the potter's wheel. Includes all supplies.

Beginning students will learn the basic principles of ceramics, and explore throwing and trimming on the wheel. More advanced students will continue to develop their skills and concentrate on individual projects and expression. *Included in the price of your class is a 25lb bag of clay as well as 2.5 hours of open studio time per week, to be used immediately following your class. Students may purchase 1 additional bag of clay from The Art Center over the course of the session. For a total of 50lbs maximum per session. Tool kits must be purchased by students and are available at most Dick Blick and Michaels stores. *Upcharge for porcelain clay: 1st bag $20, 2nd bag $50.
