In this beginning to early-intermediate drawing course we work with a range of techniques and dry media. The class is designed as a series of sequential projects, building on fundamental drawing principles such as proportion, scale, value and perspective. Students are introduced to common media utilized to complete drawings. Students also gain understanding and knowledge of space, light and composition while learning to "see" in a manner that translates the subject into a drawing or painting. Supply List Graphite Pencils: 4B, 2B, HB, 2H, 4H and any others you would like to try Paper Blending Sticks, sometimes called tortillons, with sandpaper for sharpening them Kneaded Eraser Sketchbook with drawing paper, 9x12 Curriculum Breakdown: Week 1: Learning to make the mental shift into "perception mode" using blind contour drawing, upside down drawing, and using positive and negative shapes/spaces Week2: Value and shading - using a value scale and shading the four basic shapes (sphere, cone, cylinder, and cube) Week3: Still life with grid - use the grid technique to draw a small still-life and then shade it in (the example in the class description is a student drawing from this class) Week4: Figure drawing/ basic proportions of the body - using gesture drawing as a warm-up, and photos of athletes and dancers for reference Week5: Faces and features - drawing a face using proportional guidelines and tips to improve eyes, mouth, nose, hair, ears, and shading Week 6: Perspective - basics of one point perspective and how to show depth in drawings with buildings and interiors Week7: Pen and ink - Techniques of drawing with pen and ink, including hatching, cross hatching, stippling, and showing various textures and patterns Week 8: Animals - how to break down a sketch into simple basic shapes and how to draw fur, basic animal anatomy Example of student 'Basic Drawing' work below:

Designed for youngsters in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade. These emerging artists, will have fun exploring art through a study of master artists. Students experiment with an array of materials and tools including watercolor and acrylic paints, chalk pastels, and collage. This age appropriate curriculum is based on a playful approach to art; teaching fine art techniques, art history, and building confidence. Instructed by Ms. Izzy! Includes all supplies. This ALL LEVEL sculpting class will focus on shapes, textures, and colors that make up the world around us and how to interpret them through clay. We will use the basics of handbuilding (coil, pinch, and slab techniques) to explore and expand your observational creativity. Strategies and techniques for completion, enhancing your creations through carving, surface treatments and techniques will be presented. This class is not project based. Ages 12+, students under 16 must be joined by an adult registrant. Have you ever seen those beautifully decorated eggs with intricate patterns and wondered how they were made? This workshop will explain where the traditional and ancient folk art of Pysanky (Ukrainian Easter Eggs) came from and how to create some of your own. We start with the basics, including how to prepare the eggs, how to choose the right colors and how to put the designs on the eggs. You will see eggs in the various stages of the process and I will be demonstrating step by step how to make and dye your very own Pysanky. I will have prepared anilin dyes to use during class and plenty of books about Pysanky to examine and become inspired! Students should bring the following: Candle (no taller than 6 inches) Candle holder 5-6 raw eggs - no cracks Old clothes or an apron (dyes are messy!)

Colored Pencil Society artist Susan Calderon will walk you through the stages of a colored pencil drawing. Learn techniques for creating rich and layered pieces in this versatile medium from this sought after instructor. This course will have guided step-by-step demonstrations each week consisting of paint techniques with acrylics and acrylic mediums on canvas. We will learn texturing, sponging, stippling, glazing, dry-brush, palette knife, dripping, blending & other techniques. We will learn how to prepare surfaces & build up the paint surface with layers. We will learn how to select, blend & mix colors to create pure abstracts, imaginary scenes, and natural forms. You will learn how to add depth with layers with texture and color & create a balanced abstract composition. SUPPLY LIST: The instructor will bring examples of all materials the first day of class. You can want to wait to see the supplies before purchasing them. If you already purchased acrylic paints, bring what you have & a couple of stretched canvases or canvas boards. -Brushes: An assortment of soft sythetic brushes from flats, rounds, and filberts in a range of sizes from small to large, one 2”soft, flat “gesso” brush. -Primed & stretched canvases or canvas boards.
