Call for Art

Upcycled: Reclaimed and Reimagined

April 20th - May 16th

With so much considered disposable in our modern world, Upcycled calls for artists who challenge this notion and celebrate sustainability by incorporating recycled and reclaimed materials as a primary component in their work. Work will be hung at The Art Center at Johns Creek. More information about The Art Center can be found at itstheartcenter.org

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
Entry Fee: $10 for up to 3 works
Open to artists 18 and older
All mediums welcome, but at least 50% of each piece must be made with recycled or reclaimed materials.
All work must be the creation of the artist. No AI work will be considered.
Work should be fully finished and ready to hang.
25 lb weight limit for 2-dimensional work
50 lb weight limit for 3-dimensional work
48”x48” maximum size
Submissions should include an artist statement about the process and how the work relates to sustainability.

Party with us! The Art Center invited all current students and members to participate in Celebration: Thirty Years of Creativity, a special exhibition marking the thirtieth anniversary of The Art Center. The Exhibition explores the theme of celebration - whatever it means to you personally, culturally, emotionally or artistically. Whether joyful, reflective, communal or quiet or quietly introspective, we welcome your visual interpretation of what it means to celebrate.

 

Instructions for Participation  ​

This exhibition is open to all current members of The Art Center and adult students who have taken a class within the last 12 months. If you are taking a class, please enter in the student category. If you are taking more than one class, you may submit work from each class. Students and Members will be judged separately. Each artist may submit two artworks. 

Deadline for entry is February 25th, 2026, due to the increase in participation we are unable to accept submissions after the submission deadline. This exhibition is open to all media. Questions regarding suitability may be directed to the Curator, Althea Foster, at afoster@itstheartcenter.org.

Submission Guidelines

Artists may submit two works for consideration

​Maximum artwork size: 48" x 48"

All work must be professionally presented and ready to hang (wired or sawtooth)

For safety, artwork larger than 16" x 20" must be framed using plexiglass or acrylic, not glass.

All 2-D work must be ready to hang with either a sawtooth or hanging wire. 

A short artist statement (150-250 words) describing the connection between your work and the exhibition theme is encouraged but not required.

Awards & Recognition

$500 First Place Prize, plus additional monetary awards, ribbons, and other recognitions.

Sales

Artists may offer works for sale; 75% of the sale price goes to the artist. The Art Center retains 25%. Works can also be designated NFS (Not For Sale). 

 

Artwork Pick up

Due to limited space and storage constraints, we are unable to house your artwork for an extended amount of time, please pick up your artwork promptly. We will hold pieces for 14 days from the close of the exhibition to offer flexibility for busy schedules. Any artwork not picked up within 14 days of the official pick-up date will become the property of The Art Center. If you need to make arrangements for an extension, or if another party will be retrieving your artwork please call 770-623-8448 or email Althea Foster at afoster@itstheartcenter.org

Lunar New Year High School Exhibition

February 16 - February 28, 2026

The Art Center is accepting submissions for the Lunar New Year Exhibition, an art competition and exhibition open to high school students in Fulton, Forsyth, DeKalb, and Gwinnett counties. Applicants must submit an art piece that resonates with the Lunar New Year Holiday. This may include art pieces that depict motifs, symbols, animals, plants, foods, characters, environments, or anything else that aligns with the holiday.

The Lunar New Year Exhibition is a judged competition. Cash awards, ribbons, and other prizes will be awarded.  

 

1st Place Prize: $300  

2nd Place Prize: $200  

3rd Place Prize: $150  

All participants will receive a gift bag!

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES FOR SELECTION  

  • All artwork must be original creations; applicants may not submit under another person’s name.  

  • Applicants are allowed to submit up to three works.  

  • Send a high quality JPEG or JPG image of all submissions via email to Vanessa Han at vhan4791@gmail.com with LNY Submission as the subject line.  

  • Entry files must include: the artist's first name, last name,  underscore, followed by the title (e.g. Sadie Smith_Red Lanterns.jpg)  

  • Acceptable media include, but are not limited to, pencils, paintings, digital art, ceramics, mixed media, fiber art, photography, and jewelry. To check on the suitability of a particular medium, contact Vanessa.  

  • The accompanying submission email must include:  

  • Name, Address, Email, Phone Number  

  • School, Grade Level  

  • Title, medium, size, and price for each work entered  

  • Works may be for sale or not for sale (nfs). Artists receive 75% of the selling price of work sold during the exhibition. The Art Center retains 25%.  

  • Canvas and Photos: Works must be ready to hang with either a sawtooth hanger or wire. The Art Center reserves the right to reject works not properly presented.  

  • 3D Art: Entries may not exceed 50 lbs. (~23 kg) in weight. The Art Center reserves the right to reject any work we feel we cannot hang safely.  

  • For safety reasons, works must be framed with either plexiglass or acrylic rather than glass.
