This ALL LEVEL sculpting class will focus on shapes, textures, and colors that make up the world around us and how to interpret them through clay. We will use the basics of handbuilding (coil, pinch, and slab techniques) to explore and expand your observational creativity. Strategies and techniques for completion, enhancing your creations through carving, surface treatments and techniques will be presented. This class is not project based. Students are encouraged to choose the type of sculpture or functional work would like to create. *Included in the price of your class is a 25lb bag of clay. Open studio hours will begin at 4pm on the day of your class. Students may purchase 1 additional bag of clay from The Art Center over the course of the session. For a total of 50lbs maximum per session. Tool kits must be purchased by students and are available at most Dick Blick and Michaels stores. *Upcharge for porcelain clay: 1st bag $20, 2nd bag $50. An art camp celebrating all things sparkle! Create 2D and 3D artwork that shimmers, glitters, and shines with a wide range of sparkly mediums. All that glitters is art!
- Fall) Share Your Story
First person storytelling shows are all the rage on stages and podcasts across the country. In this class, you will learn how to take true events from your own life and weave them into engaging performances. We will work on public speaking skills, presentation, story structure, different narrative approaches, and creating your own unique style. Each week, students will be given a new assignment for how to structure a story. Students choose their own subject matter for their personal stories. This class culminates in a graduation performance, where each student will share a 3-7 minute personal story. Class occupancy: Min 4 / Max 8
- Week 7 Grades 6-8: Create-A-Play
Exercise your acting muscles in this fun collaborative camp! Campers will work together to make a play from scratch, learning different improv and acting techniques along the way. At the end of the camp, all the campers will get to perform in their one-of-a-kind play!
- Fall) Drawing with Debra Yaun
Are you wanting to work on drawing skills in graphite or colored pencil? Or would you rather work in scratchboard, pastel or watercolor? Learn something new or brush up on your skills. Portrait, still life or nature whatever interests you. This class is for all levels of experience where you work on a project at your own speed and have fun! A project can be given to you or choose your own to work on in the medium you prefer. Reference material will be supplied if you don’t have your own. This class will meet for 6 weeks and is priced accordingly.
- Week 7 Grades 2-7: Tiny Treasures
Do you have a fascination with the teeny tiny? Create your own characters, toys, miniature food and jewelry collection! Students learn how to use polymer clay and other art materials to create small figurines, adorable animals, cute charms for keychains, earrings, necklaces, bracelets and much more. The possibilities are endless!

Time to get runway-ready with this camp all about fashion! Campers will draw a fashion line, learn some basic hand sewing skills, and make fashionable accessories to create their own look!
- Week 6 Ceramics Camp Grades 2-6
Learn how to create fun, decorative, and functional clay projects! Students will explore fundamental clay skills like pinch, coil, and slab to build their own ceramic creations. They will then learn glazing and surface decorating techniques to finish off their one-of-a-kind creations! Projects differ week to week.

Handbuilding - Beyond the Basics Dive deeper into the art of handbuilding ceramics in this intermediate-level course designed for those who have a basic understanding of clay techniques and are ready to expand their skills. You will explore advanced handbuilding methods, experimenting with texture, surface decoration, and complex forms while developing your own unique style. Must have completed four or more handbuilding courses or have equivalent experience. Please bring your own set of tools and your ideas to class. The planned substitute instructor for this class will be Ramona Razavi. You can learn more about Ramona and Julie by visiting our Instructor page, under the 'About Us' menu option. Possible substitute dates TBD. *Included in the price of your class is a 25lb bag of clay as well as 2.5 hours of open studio time per week, to be used immediately following your class. - Week 4 Grades 7-12 Teen Painting
Come create whimsical art! Working with a variety of media options, students will explore various drawing and painting techniques such as shading, brushwork, color mixing, hatching and cross hatching. We will work with charcoal, ink, watercolor, collage/cut paper, and acrylics. Each project will begin with concept sketches and reference images, then progress to a linework phase, then to the finished art. We will focus on making the most of the elements and principles of design while allowing students to flex their creative muscles in the process.
- J. Spr) Tammy J Thurs AM Interm. Wheel
This class is designed for students with previous pottery wheel experience. Students in this class will explore various forms, surfaces and techniques of throwing on the potters wheel. There will be projects assigned throughout the class, this is a great way for the experienced potter to expand their knowledge of clay. *Included in the price of your class is a 25lb bag of clay as well as 2.5 hours of open studio time per week, to be used immediately following your class. Students may purchase 1 additional bag of clay from The Art Center over the course of the session. For a total of 50lbs maximum per session. Tool kits must be purchased by students and are available at most Dick Blick and Michaels stores. *Upcharge for porcelain clay: 1st bag $20, 2nd bag $50. Clay can be purchased at the front desk.
