- Hand Paint a Velvet Scarf
Students will be introduced to fiber-reactive dyes to create a luminous, vibrantly colored, oblong scarf. We will suspend a 9" x 42" silk/rayon scarf on a PVC frame and apply different techniques to the outstretched fabric, including the application of fluid and liquid dye. The result will be a soft, cozy and elegant accessory; perfect for Georgia's mild seasons! This class is appropriate for all levels of art skills. Ages 18+ Instructor fee of $25 paid directly to the instructor at the start of class.
- Week 3 Grades 7-12: Creative Writing
Do you have a novel simmering in your mind, waiting to come to life? In this camp, you will explore several fundamental skills for effective creative writing. This isn’t a grammar lesson- we’ll be going into different brainstorming techniques, learning about character psychology and worldbuilding tools, and practicing techniques for writing descriptions and dialogues that make your story come to life. At the end of each camp day, you’ll get words down in your own novel draft as you engage in a writing battle with your teacher! Notebooks will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring their own devices if they prefer to write on computers.

Immerse your child in a creative experience and spark their artistic talents! Your child will acquire drawing and painting skills while exploring mixed media and artistic techniques. A fun, educational, age appropriate art class for the young art enthusiast. After School Art - Students experiment with an array of materials and tools including watercolor and acrylic paints, and chalk pastels. Class is held in your child's school and begins after the school day dismissal. Includes all supplies. You must send a change of dismissal form with your child notifying the school that your child attends this after school class. Once you've registered your child for this class, an email will be sent containing the form. Please fill it out and submit it to your school. If you would like to make arrangements to set up a payment plan; please call The Art Center at 770-623-8448. Discover the joys of pottery in this handbuilding class for students of all levels! From crafting functional ceramics like cups and bowls to exploring your artistic side with sculpting, there's something for you. We'll guide you through different techniques while leaving room for your imagination to soar and have fun. Although this is not a project based class, projects may be assigned to assist students in expanding their handbuilding skills. Chen Pin Hsu will be the lead instructor on (Tuesday and Friday mornings) on the following dates: March 31, April 3, 14, 17 *Included in the price of your class is a 25lb bag of clay as well as 2.5 hours of open studio time per week, to be used immediately following your class. - Spr) Abstract Portraits in Acrylics
This course will have guided step-by-step demonstrations each week consisting of paint techniques with acrylics and mixed media on canvas. Inspired by abstract painters such as Picasso, Matisse and other contemporary styles, we will explore expressive and imaginative ways to create abstract portraits. We will learn how to create designs, prepare surfaces and build up the paint surface with layers. We will learn how to select, blend and mix colors as well as texturing, sponging, stippling, glazing, dry-brush, palette knife, dripping, collage and other techniques. No previous drawing or painting experience is required to take this course. SUPPLY LIST The Instructor will bring examples of all materials the first day of class. You may want to wait to see all the materials before purchasing them. If you already purchased acrylic paints, bring what you have and a couple of stretched canvases or canvas boards. You can wait to purchase gels, pastes and mediums until after the first day of class. -Brushes: An assortment of soft synthetic brushes from flats, rounds, & filberts in a range of sizes from small to large, one 2” soft, flat “gesso” brush. This class meets for 4 weeks and is priced accordingly. -Primed & stretched canvases or canvas boards. Improv is the best introduction to the theatre arts for young students. Players will build on their imaginations while they spontaneously create stories, characters, and scenes. Through fun games and exercises, students will learn the essential improv skills of listening, reacting, collaborating with others, and trusting oneself. Improv nurtures confidence and connection in students. This class culminates in a brief demonstration for family and friends. Class occupancy: min. 4, max. 12

Want to try acrylic painting but aren't sure you'd like to commit to buying all the materials and taking an 8 week class? Look no further! Join artist Leslie Murphy for a 4 week class and learn the basics of acrylic painting! Working with a guided, step by step process, we will create two painting studies, touching on basics of the medium and materials needed, color mixing, handling the brush, and more. This is an excellent way to dip your toes in the waters of painting and is a great stepping stone to an 8 week class. $10 supply fee paid directly to instructor during first class. Art bites intro classes can be taken in either order (1 first or 2 first or vice versa). Each intro class has the same level of painting, just different projects. Learn how to create fun, decorative, and functional clay projects! Students will explore fundamental clay skills like pinch, coil, and slab to build their own ceramic creations. They will then learn glazing and surface decorating techniques to finish off their one-of-a-kind creations! Projects differ week to week.

Anime is a highly distinctive style of cartoon drawing which originated in Japan and enjoys immense worldwide popularity. Anime are the characters appearing in manga which are Japanese graphic novels and comic strips. There are a wide variety of manga appropriate for children through adult readers. Manga characters are instantly recognizable by their large eyes, highly stylized hair, fashionable clothing and overall expressive quality.
