In this one day workshop, students will explore what makes a character tick and how to go deeper than playing just a cartoonish caricature. Actors will exercise the techniques that assist in portraying genuine, believable characters who have heart. Prerequisites: Adults 18 and up. Previous improv or acting training/experience required. The possibilities are endless! Class projects include a mini game board, charm bracelet, a mini flower arrangement in a polymer clay vase and a tiny canvas painting complete with easel. No previous experience is needed for this class. Just bring a desire to learn and unlock your creative spirit!

Are you wanting to work on drawing skills in graphite or colored pencil? Or would you rather work in scratchboard, pastel or watercolor? Learn something new or brush up on your skills. Portrait, still life or nature whatever interests you. This class is for all levels of experience where you work on a project at your own speed and have fun! A project can be given to you or choose your own to work on in the medium you prefer. Reference material will be supplied if you don’t have your own.
- FALL 2) Abstract Painting in Acrylics
This course will have guided step-by-step demonstrations each week consisting of paint techniques with acrylics and acrylic mediums on canvas. We will learn texturing, sponging, stippling, glazing, dry-brush, palette knife, dripping, blending & other techniques. We will learn how to prepare surfaces & build up the paint surface with layers. We will learn how to select, blend & mix colors to create pure abstracts and imaginary scenes and natural forms. You will learn how to add depth with layers with texture and color & create a balanced abstract composition. Instructor will bring examples of all materials the first day of class. You may want to wait to see all the materials before purchasing them. If you already purchased acrylic paints, bring what you have & a few stretched canvases or canvas boards. You can wait to purchase gels, pastes & mediums until after the first day of class. -Brushes: An assortment of soft nylon brushes from flats, rounds, and filberts in a range of sizes from small to large, one 2”soft, flat “gesso” brush. -Primed & stretched canvases or canvas boards. Suggested: 11x14, 12x16, 16x20. (Advanced painters can bring larger canvases). -Palette: disposable palettes such as foam plates or paper palettes -Palette knife: at least one flexible pointed chisel-shaped metal knife -1 lg carry-all for wet paintings & tool box for your supplies -1 sm jar of Light Molding or Light Modeling Paste (see example in class) -1 sm jar of Gloss Gel Medium (see example in class) -1 sm bottle each of Acrylic Matte Medium (see example in class) - I container for water (such as a larger yogurt container) -1 roll of paper towels - disposable gloves (optional) -Paint: names of paints are all different, here is a recommended list with comparative names for acrylic paints. Designed for youngsters in Kindergarten through 2nd Grade. These emerging artists, will have fun exploring art through a study of master artists. Students experiment with an array of materials and tools including watercolor and acrylic paints, chalk pastels, and collage. This age appropriate curriculum is based on a playful approach to art; teaching fine art techniques, art history, and building confidence. Includes all supplies. Class Closed - Improv (short for improvisation) is a popular form of theatre in which the players spontaneously create stories, characters, and scenes. Through fun games and exercises, students will learn the essential improv skills of listening, reacting, collaborating with others, and trusting oneself. Over the course of 5 weeks, students will learn how to release their natural creativity and create spontaneous stories both verbally and physically. This class will culminate in an entertaining demonstration for family and friends. Students in grades 7 - 12 welcome.

Students will be encouraged to go the extra mile with preliminary drawings and color studies while working on their own paintings. Work at your own pace in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Each session features 3 instructor demonstrations of advanced painting techniques. This class will delve deeper into color theory, mixing, and application, as well as, composition and design strategies. Because everyone's needs are different, supplies will be discussed during the first class. New students, bring your current painting in progress (if you have one) and any materials you already have. IMPRESSIONIST FLOWERS IN SOY WAX BATIK This four week mini session is an exploration of expressive abstract techniques applied to silk. A contemporary approach to Batik, resulting in beautiful fine art for wall hangings or wearable scarves. Students will employ a loose, abstract and painterly approach in rendering floral imagery on silk. Working on a 22"x22" silk square suspended and stretched on a frame, students will be influenced and inspired by the French impressionist painters and their floral bouquets, sprays and fields of flowers. Participants may bring a collection of floral photos as reference, or refer to available images provided by the instructor. Absolutely no painting or drawing experience necessary! When considering the French Impressionist painters, one may think of Renoir with his vases of roses or chrysanthemums, or sunflowers in a vase by Monet. Mary Cassettes’ Lilacs in a Window are a loosely rendered interpretation of lilacs. Florals have been a popular subject of painters throughout history, they are almost a textural element in an abstract painting. In this class we will explore how to use soy wax batik to render impressionistic and abstracted interpretations of flowers. Students should bring paper towels and disposable gloves. Supply fee: $25.00 payable to the instructor at the first class covers all other supplies. Class must meet min of 4 students by October 29th to run.

Fundamentals of Painting This class is designed for the Beginner to Intermediate level painter who would like to explore different painting techniques, gaining a greater understanding of different fundamental concepts of art. Broadening your knowledge will help you to be the artist you always wanted to be! Structured by modules, this class will focus on a different fundamental concept each 8-week session. Examples include Values, Color, Perspective, Light and Shadow, and Design. Focusing on one concept and applying that concept through painting exercises and finished paintings will allow you to develop a deeper understanding of the fundamental concepts of art, making you a stronger artist. In a nurturing and welcoming environment, you will create intentional paintings that allow you to demonstrate the theme concept of the session. I will provide you with structured guidance while promoting your own creative voice. Demonstrations will be made with oil paint, however, the student may choose to use oil, water based oil or acrylic. iPads or tablets are recommended but not required. Supply List: Sketch pad (9x12), pencils, pencil eraser and kneaded eraser Color Wheel Palette knives: 1 Sm & 1 Med. RGM brand preferred for flexibility.
