Students will learn to create a painting from concept to completion in oil or acrylic media. We will focus on proper planning prior to starting a painting, as well as, basic layering and blending techniques, color mixing, handling the brush and more. Students will work at their own pace in a relaxed and supportive setting. Each session will feature 3 instructor demonstrations of beginning-intermediate painting techniques. Because everyone's needs are different, supplies will be discussed during the first class. New students, bring your sketch pad and your ideas if you've never painted before. New students who have already begun your painting journey, bring anything you're currently working on as well as materials that you already have. Returning students, bring your current painting and materials. Class size limited to 10 to provide an intimate experience with your instructor. This class will delve deeper into color theory, mixing, and application, as well as, composition and design strategies. Because everyone's needs are different, supplies will be discussed during the first class. New students, bring your current painting in progress (if you have one) and any materials you already have. Whether you are a complete beginner or a potter who wishes to advance your skills this class is for you. This instructor led class will assist students of all levels expand their knowledge and creativity using the Potter's Wheel. *Included in the price of your class is a 25lb bag of clay as well as 2.5 hours of open studio time per week, to be used immediately following your class. Students may purchase 1 additional bag of clay from The Art Center over the course of the session. For a total of 50lbs maximum per session. Tool kits must be purchased by students and are available at most Dick Blick and Michaels stores. *Upcharge for porcelain clay: 1st bag $20, 2nd bag $50. Clay can be purchased at the front desk.

- Spr) Improv for Early Grades
Improv is the best introduction to the theatre arts for young students. Players will build on their imaginations while they spontaneously create stories, characters, and scenes. Through fun games and exercises, students will learn the essential improv skills of listening, reacting, collaborating with others, and trusting oneself. Improv nurtures confidence and connection in students. This class culminates in a brief demonstration for family and friends. Class occupancy: min. 4, max. 12
- Wk 7 Grade 7-12: Online Video Production
Students will learn and utilize the fundamentals of lighting, audio setup, editing, acting, screenwriting, and directing for online video creation. This class will focus on three kinds of video: talking head videos, comedy sketches, and video essays. The camp will have several fun projects based on each style of video and the technical skills that each one utilizes.
- Week 2 Pottery Camp Grades 7-12
Learn how to throw on the wheel to make fun and functional ceramic pieces! Teens will learn the techniques needed to create ceramic dishware as well as hand built clay sculptures. The pieces will be fired in a kiln and then students will learn different glazing and painting techniques to create truly unique ceramics. Art projects differ each week.
- Week 3 Grades 3-5: Drawing and Painting
Create artwork that steps out of the world of myths! Campers will exercise their art skills with a range of creative projects exploring drawing and painting mediums like acrylic, colored pencil, markers, and mixed media. Their art will be the stuff of legends!
- 4-8 Spring Break Camp: Kawaii Anime Camp
Beginning with simple step by step drawings, students are introduced to basic anime and manga techniques. Anime is a highly distinctive style of cartoon drawing which originated in Japan and enjoys immense worldwide popularity. Anime are the characters appearing in manga which are Japanese graphic novels and comic strips. There are a wide variety of manga appropriate for children through adult readers. Manga characters are instantly recognizable by their large eyes, highly stylized hair, fashionable clothing and overall expressive quality. Created especially for kids in grades 4-8, held at The Art Center Children requiring a personal assistant or one-to-one (1:1) support must be accompanied by their direct support professional.
