    Fundamentals of Painting This class is designed for the Beginner to Intermediate level painter who would like to explore different painting techniques, gaining a greater understanding of different fundamental concepts of art. Broadening your knowledge will help you to be the artist you always wanted to be! Structured by modules, this class will focus on a different fundamental concept each 8-week session. Examples include Values, Color, Perspective, Light and Shadow, and Design. Focusing on one concept and applying that concept through painting exercises and finished paintings will allow you to develop a deeper understanding of the fundamental concepts of art, making you a stronger artist. In a nurturing and welcoming environment, you will create intentional paintings that allow you to demonstrate the theme concept of the session. I will provide you with structured guidance while promoting your own creative voice. Demonstrations will be made with oil paint, however, the student may choose to use oil, water based oil or acrylic. iPads or tablets are recommended but not required. Supply List: Sketch pad (9x12), pencils, pencil eraser and kneaded eraser Color Wheel Palette knives: 1 Sm & 1 Med. RGM brand preferred for flexibility. Brushes: Bring any brushes that you have, a good supply to start with is: Synthetic brushes in Flat: sizes 12 - 4; Filbert: sizes 8-2; Round: sizes 2-1 Paints: Any brand you like, we will be using a limited palette: Cadmium yellow light, pale, or lemon Cadmium red light Ultramarine blue Titanium white Chromatic black Canvases: 1, 12x16: any other small size canvas you like to use: 8x10, 9x12, 11x14 Paper towels: Scott's Blue Shop or Viva Signature Cloth are best If you prefer to wear gloves, please use latex free disposable If you are using oils please have the following: Masterson's Palette box 12 x 16 Gray Matters Palette paper for oil Solvent: Gamsol oderless mineral spirits and solvent container Medium: Gamlin non-solvent medium for oils If you are using acrylics please have the following: Masterson's Palette box 12x16 Acrylic palette paper & sponge to fit box so paints do not dry out. Small spray bottle Water container For all painters: Most of the above supplies can be found at Blick's, Binder's, and Jerrysartarama.com. Michaels' & Hobby Lobby have some but not all. Bring what you have on the first day and we will discuss additional supplies at that time.

    Students will learn and utilize the fundamentals of lighting, audio setup, editing, acting, screenwriting, and directing for online video creation. This class will focus on three kinds of video: talking head videos, comedy sketches, and video essays. The camp will have several fun projects based on each style of video and the technical skills that each one utilizes.

  • Spr) Applied Dynamic Drawings

    Learn about different styles using step-by-step techniques to draw and ink running figures, cartoon hands, legs, feet and more. Create your own comic book characters and design your own comic book. In this drawing focused class taught by a professional illustrator, students learn techniques and tricks of the trade allowing them to create realistic and effective artwork. This is an ideal class for the young artist interested in learning storyboarding and effective illustration techniques. Students hone their observational skills strengthening the ability to communicate ideas and thoughts through drawings. The class will teach anatomy, dynamic poses, shading, scene creation, blocking and how to draw movement. They learn character creation and how to effectively integrate their characters into convincing scenes. Students will explore rapid visualization techniques and learn to refine and edit their drawings. This class is designed for youth students in grades 6-12. Includes all supplies.

Held at here at The Art Center your child, accompanied by a caregiver, will hear a story and make an art project during this 1 hour workshop with instructor, Ms. Karen! FREE and open to the public.     Immerse your child in a creative experience and spark their artistic talents! Your child will acquire drawing and painting skills while exploring mixed media and artistic techniques. A fun, educational, age appropriate art class for the young art enthusiast. After School Art - Students experiment with an array of materials and tools including watercolor and acrylic paints, and chalk pastels. Class is held in your child's school and begins after the school day dismissal. Includes all supplies. You must send a change of dismissal form with your child notifying the school that your child attends this after school class. Once you've registered your child for this class, an email will be sent containing the form. Please fill it out and submit it to your school. If you would like to make arrangements to set up a payment plan; please call The Art Center at 770-623-8448.   • Week 1 Ceramics Camp Grades 2-6

    Learn how to create fun, decorative, and functional clay projects! Students will explore fundamental clay skills like pinch, coil, and slab to build their own ceramic creations. They will then learn glazing and surface decorating techniques to finish off their one-of-a-kind creations! Projects differ week to week.

  • Art Bites: Intro to Oil Painting 2

    Are you curious about oil painting and unsure of where to begin? Discover the magic of this classic artist medium without the extensive time and materials commitment. Check out this 4 week intro to oil painting course. Working with a guided, step by step approach, we will create two painting studies, touching on the basics of oil painting and the required materials, color mixing, handling the brush, and more. This class is an excellent stepping stone to an 8 week class. $10 supply fee paid to directly to instructor during first class. Art bites intro classes can be taken in either order (1 first or 2 first or vice versa). Each intro class has the same level of painting, just different projects. Intro to oil painting 2 should only be taken once as projects do not change. Held April - May

  • Spr) Interm-Adv Oil & Acrylic Tues PM

    Students will be encouraged to go the extra mile with preliminary drawings and color studies while working on their own paintings. Work at your own pace in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. Each session features 3 instructor demonstrations of advanced painting techniques. This class will delve deeper into color theory, mixing, and application, as well as, composition and design strategies. Because everyone's needs are different, supplies will be discussed during the first class. New students, bring your current painting in progress (if you have one) and any materials you already have. Returning students, bring your current painting and materials. Please note: This is not an appropriate class for beginners. Painting experience is required as students are expected to work independently in a larger class setting.   • Week 2 Pottery Camp Grades 7-12

    Learn how to throw on the wheel to make fun and functional ceramic pieces! Teens will learn the techniques needed to create ceramic dishware as well as hand built clay sculptures. The pieces will be fired in a kiln and then students will learn different glazing and painting techniques to create truly unique ceramics. Art projects differ each week.

  • Week 3 Grades 3-5: Drawing and Painting

    Create artwork that steps out of the world of myths! Campers will exercise their art skills with a range of creative projects exploring drawing and painting mediums like acrylic, colored pencil, markers, and mixed media. Their art will be the stuff of legends!
