Service Description
Silk Painting & Batik Techniques for Fine Art and Scarves class is for ALL LEVELS, from beginners to experienced artists, that want to explore a vibrant new art media. Participants will delight in the beautiful flow of luminous dye colors on silk! The class will cover the basics of color mixing and color theory with the use of acid dyes that chemically bond to the silk for wash fastness. Techniques introduced will include salt textures, soy wax batik and thickened dye to create various effects. Students will be guided in laying out designs and images to create pleasing a composition. Drawing skills are not required, various image and layout templates are available to students. Students will use professional, vibrant dyes, wax resist and gutta techniques to create silk paintings on a 22” square silk. No drawing skills necessary! Students should bring bold black line work; simple sketches on white paper as reference materials if they don’t want to use templates available in class. Please wear protective clothing to class because dyes stain clothing. Also please bring a roll of paper towels as well as disposable gloves. Materials Fee: for 8 week class is $30 (payable to the instructor in cash at the first class). This includes all the supplies needed to paint one 22” silk square. Students will likely complete additional pieces. There is a fee of $8.00 for each additional 22” silk square or $10 for silk measuring 11”x60”. The silk has a rolled hem.

Cancellation Policy
1. The Art Center reserves the right to cancel classes or camps due to insufficient enrollment. If The Art Center cancels a class or camp, registrants will receive a refund. We reserve the right to substitute an instructor if necessary. 2. The Art Center does not pro-rate class or camp fees. 3. Membership fees are non-refundable. 4. Four business days notice must be given before the start of the first class if you wish to cancel. 5. Registration changes and cancellations will incur an administrative fee of $30. 6. Refunds will be processed within 30 days after the 1st day of the start of class. 6a. For high demand classes: if you cancel your registration and vacate your seat, we will retain 50% of your initial registration fee to pay the instructor, if the seat cannot be filled. This is in addition to the $30 administration fee. 7. No refunds will be issued for cancellations made after the beginning of the class or camp.
